Exploring mathematical problems beyond the tip of the Iceberg

This is a highlighted event that will showcase great ways in which Matt  uses online resources in the Mathematics. A constant challenge for a teacher is to cater for the diversity of students in their classes. I am always looking to incorporate rich Maths tasks that are easy for students to make a start on the problem, but once students are engaged in the problem, they are exposed to the deeper, richer Mathematics lurking beneath the surface, hence the use of the 'iceberg' metaphor.

A regular source of these problems is via my school's subscription to Maths 300.  We will explore 1-2 of these problems during this webinar. The session will begin with a brief overview of Maths 300 and its features to support the professional growth of teachers.

Webinar Activities

  • Task 1: 4 and 20 Blackbirds
  • Task 2: Arithmagons
